Celtic could be edging ahead of West Ham in the pursuit of Lazio winger Matteo Cancellieri, who may be set for a move to the British Isles.

According to ExWHUEmployee, both clubs are chasing the 24-year-old, with Celtic accelerating attempts to take him to Glasgow as veteran manager Martin O’Neil seeks attacking reinforcements and views the Roman as a suitable option.

West Ham are more likely to target a left winger to replace Crysencio Summerville, who joined Al-Hilal in recent days, with Jarrod Bowen established on the right. The 29-year-old captain is expected to stay despite relegation to the Championship.

Cancellieri came through Roma’s ranks, broke through at Hellas Verona, then joined Lazio in summer 2022. After limited minutes in his first campaign, he spent successive loans at Empoli and Parma before returning last season, partly due to a transfer ban.

He began last term brightly before injury checked his progress, allowing Gustav Isaksen to reclaim the right flank under Maurizio Sarri. The Italian finished with four goals and two assists in 30 Serie A outings, and with his contract up next year, a departure remains possible.

Gennaro Gattuso is tipped to make Isaksen his first-choice right winger, while Tijjani Noslin has been tried there in pre-season and impressed against Flaminia on Monday. Lazio might not need to sign a replacement if Cancellieri moves on.
