The Japanese international joined the Scottish champions in the summer of 2021, and he enjoyed a hugely successful three-and-a-half years at Parkhead, as Celtic dominated domestically, as the ex-Vissel Kobe man won eight trophies.

Such form convinced Rennes to splash out £10m on Furuhashi last year, but he struggled in France before leaving for Birmingham City in the summer.

Celtic keen on Kyogo Furuhashi return from Birmingham City

Unfortunately for the 30-year-old, his issues in front of goal have continued in Birmingham, as he has failed to find the net in 23 Championship appearances for Chris Davies’ side.

Therefore, he has lost his place in the starting XI, and reports have claimed that Celtic are keen on bringing the player back north of the border as they look to boost Martin O’Neill’s squad with attacking reinforcements.

However, it seems a move won’t be straightforward, as Herald Scotland has revealed that Furuhashi is earning a salary of £40,000 a week in the Second City, so an agreement would need to be reached with Celtic over what percentage they would pay.

Furthermore, the update adds that Furuhashi isn’t totally convinced about returning to Scotland, as he is determined to prove himself in Birmingham even after his difficult start.

Kyogo Furuhashi facing a big decision on his future amid Birmingham City struggles

It’s no surprise that Celtic are keen on Furuhashi as their options up front right now are very limited, and, in truth, they need at least two strikers through the door as they look to retain their title from Hearts or Rangers.

With Furuhashi having proven himself in the league, it’s a no-brainer for them to bring him back if a deal can be agreed, but these things are never easy.

From Birmingham’s perspective, they will know they aren’t going to get their money back in a permanent deal right now given his struggles, but some would question whether a loan is worthwhile.

Furuhashi has still been getting opportunities, and he looks the sort of player where one goal could get him going and provide him with the confidence he has been lacking.

Clearly, he is disappointed at the way things have gone, and it seems he may have a big decision looming if Celtic do come to an agreement with Blues.
