It was a case of A, B, C, D for Frankfurt on Sunday night, with Amenda, Brown, Chaibi and Doan all in the spotlight.
Nathaniel Brown will soon be trading Frankfurt for the world’s biggest footballing stage. Before Germany’s national team bid farewell to the masses of fans who have been cheering them on at the DFB Campus, Julian Nagelsmann’s side were in action in Mainz on Sunday evening against Finland. Brown was one of the main stories on the night, as the Eintracht Frankfurt left-back won his fourth international cap and played the full 90 minutes for the first time in a Germany jersey.
The match was a one-sided affair, with Germany seeing off the visitors 4-0 thanks to goals from Deniz Undav (2), Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala. Former Eagles keeper Lukas Hradecky was the unfortunate Finn forced to pick the ball out of the back of the net on four occasions.
Farès Chaibi was another Frankfurt player with reason to celebrate, after Algeria coach Vladimir Petkovic named his squad on Sunday afternoon for the World Cup. Chaibi has been selected for the Desert Foxes, who will play a warm-up match against the Netherlands in Rotterdam on Wednesday.
Three Eintracht wins on Sunday, two more matches to come on Monday
In addition to Brown, Aurèle Amenda and Ritsu Doan also enjoyed wins with their respective national teams on Sunday. Doan played the first half for Japan, for whom Koki Ogawa scored the only goal of the game shortly before full time to secure victory over Iceland in Tokyo. Japan have now won six in a row, keeping clean sheets in the last five with Doan featuring in all of them. Amenda, meanwhile, was an unused substitute in Switzerland’s 4-1 win over Jordan.
Monday night will see Ellyes Skhiri’s Tunisia take on Austria and Can Uzun’s Türkiye face North Macedonia. All international matches with Eintracht involvement
