Champions! Corinthians beat Cruzeiro to win seventh Brasileirão title

On the morning of this Sunday, September 14, Corinthians and Cruzeiro faced each other in the second leg of the grand final of the Women's Brasileirão. After a 2 x 2 draw in the first leg of the decision, the Neo Química Arena welcomed 41,130 people to celebrate another title of the Brabas, with a Corinthians victory by 1 x 0.

The first half of the match was balanced, with the Brabas starting more energetic, but lacking in effectiveness. On the other side, the mining club made few attacks, but had the chances that scared the most, hitting the crossbar on one of the opportunities.

The second half was more open, with both teams looking for the goal. However, it was Corinthians who shook the nets: in a set piece play, Thais Ferreira took advantage of the rebound and scored the black and white team's title goal. The Brabas held the score until the end and secured the seventh national title in history.

Corinthians lineup and absences

In the team that was throughout the Brabas campaign in the Brasileirão, no player was absent due to physical problem or suspension. The only loss is Ivana Fuso, who was not registered in the competition.

Therefore, coach Dorival Júnior lined up Corinthians with Nicole; Thais Ferreira, Erika, Mariza and Tamires; Day Rodríguez, Duda Sampaio and Gabi Zanotti; Andressa Alves, Jaqueline and Jhonson. On the bench were available Kemelli, Letícia Teles, Thais Regina, Gisela Robledo, Yaya, Eudimilla, Vic Albuquerque, Letícia Monteiro, Paulinha, Juliete, Gi Fernandes and Ariel Godoi.

Cruzeiro lineup

Coach Jonas Urias fielded a Cruzeiro team composed of Camila R., Isabela, Haas, Paloma Maciel, Vitoria Calhau; Bedoya, Gisseli, Pri Back; Gaby Saores, Marília and Byanca Brasil.

Refereeing

The whistle was held by Deborah Cecilia Cruz Correia, assisted by Leila Naiara Moreira da Cruz and Brigida Cirilo Ferreira. The VAR was under the responsibility of Rodrigo Nunes de Sá.

First half

The Brabas started on top of Cruzeiro, trying to attack on several opportunities, but without effectiveness, something commented by Lucas Piccinato during the pre-decision week of the Women's Brasileirão. Despite this, they managed to demand more attention from the opposing defenders.

After being pressured, Cruzeiro managed to pose a threat to Corinthians' defense, but the black and white team managed to pay attention and keep the score at zero after a set piece play.

The game continued with few dangerous chances and, at 26 minutes, the game was stopped for three minutes due to a blow to Cruzeiro's goalkeeper and cooled the players. To take advantage of the time, the coaches went to give instructions to the teams on the field.

At 34, the Corinthians crowd got a big scare after a scramble inside the area. In a finish from inside the area, the ball hit the post and Nicole didn't even have time to react, defending 'with the eye'. Cruzeiro's team continued to press Timão, but without scoring.

Minutes later, the team commanded by Piccinato returned to command the domains and seek the opposing goal. The Brabas tried a rehearsed play, but it didn't work. Shortly after, Andressa Alves tried to shoot directly at the goal from a free kick, but the ball was deflected for a corner.

In stoppage time, Cruzeiro came close to Corinthians' goal, drawing a sigh from the Fiel present in Itaquera. To the relief of the defense, the move was invalidated for offside.

Neither team managed to take advantage of the six extra minutes of the first half and the teams went down to the locker room tied at 0 x 0, which would take the decision to penalties.

Second half

In search of opening the score, the coaching staff decided to increase the number of offensive players. Day Rodríguez left and Vic Albuquerque entered, the club's all-time top scorer in the modality.

With this change, Timão went on the attack in the first minutes and made a good play that ended in Jhonson. However, the center forward couldn't balance herself and ended up finishing wrong.

Corinthians' goal: in a set piece play, the ball fell to Duda Sampaio on the side of the area. The midfielder shot at the goal, but was stopped by the goalkeeper, who rebounded the ball to defender Thais Ferreira. The defender was confident and pushed the ball into the back of the goal! Her first goal with Timão's shirt.

Even with the advantage on the scoreboard, the Brabas remained in search of shaking the nets. Cruzeiro tried to play from the defensive field, but Corinthians tried to press, with Jhonson being the piece that bothered the opposing defenders.

The Cabulosas tried to arrive with a finish from outside the area, but Érika was brave and put her head in front, keeping Nicole calm. On the rebound, Cruzeiro tried again, but ended up finishing outside.

After opening the midfield, Piccinato took out Andressa Alves and put in Yaya, as the forward felt tired after running for almost 70 minutes.

Corinthians fell back after the change, with Cruzeiro going on the attack in search of the draw. Thus, Jhonson became a safety valve for counterattacks and almost managed to win a race against Bia Haas, but the defender managed to arrive first.

In search of reducing Cruzeiro's momentum, Corinthians made two more changes: Jhonson and Duda Sampaio left; Gi Fernandes and Letícia Monteiro entered, improving the team's defensive part.

Shortly after the changes, Corinthians almost extended the score in a play made by Gi Fernandes on the right side. Gabi Zanotti received alone inside the area, tried to head, but ended up finishing outside. The right back arrived again in the next move and finished with force, stopping at the goalkeeper.

At 41, the coaching staff made another change, this time putting in a forward. Gabi Zanotti left the field for the entrance of Ariel Godói.

In stoppage time, Corinthians tried to keep possession of the ball, but Cruzeiro went for the smother in search of tying the match. Even so, the Corinthians defense was solid and secured another title for the club.
