As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Champions League qualification will play a key role in Napoli deciding whether they stick with Antonio Conte for another season or not.

Things between Conte and club chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis have been tense for almost the entirety of the former’s time at the club. The two famously exchanged a cold embrace during Napoli’s title celebrations last year.

Going into the business end of the season, Conte is linked with a return to the national team, with the FIGC looking at a complete overhaul after yet another World Cup miss.

The 56-year-old has another year year left on his contract with Napoli, though the club are expected to bring forward their end-of-season meeting with the coach regarding his future after the team’s 2–0 to Lazio at the weekend.

The defeat to the Biancazzurri means Napoli will have to grind out results a while longer before they can plan for Champions League nights for next season. They are currently third in the table, eight points off Como and Roma in fifth and sixth, respectively. They also face Cesc Fàbregas’ men in two weeks’ time, a meeting that may very well seal their fate and initiate talks between Conte and Napoli over his future.
