CHAN 2024 – Group B: Tanzania continues its run and advances to the quarter-finals

Tanzania, co-host of CHAN 2024, has qualified for the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time in its history thanks to a 2-1 victory over Madagascar on Saturday night at the Benjamin Mpaka National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The hero of the evening, Clement Mzize, struck twice in quick succession at the start of the match. The Young Africans striker opened the scoring as early as the 13th minute, then doubled the lead just seven minutes later (20th), sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

Madagascar pulled one back in the 34th minute through Mika Razafimahatana, but despite several attempts in the second half, they were unable to find an equalizer.

This victory marks Tanzania’s third win in as many games, after defeating Burkina Faso (2-0) and Mauritania (1-0). With a perfect nine points from nine, the Taifa Stars are guaranteed to finish top of Group B.
