The Addicks have been competitive in the Championship so far this season, having beaten established second tier clubs such as Ipswich Town, Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion, which has put the club in a decent position going into the winter window despite a difficult recent run of form.

Meanwhile, off the pitch, the club's owners, Global Football Partners, have explored the possibility of selling a stake in the club.

It could well be an interesting month or so in SE7 as Nathan Jones looks to strengthen his playing squad, while supporters will also be keeping an eye out for any further updates regarding the ownership situation.

Let's take a closer look at the latest news from The Valley.

Charlton owners are looking for a new partner

It was revealed this week that Charlton's owners, Global Football Partners, are the next Championship club to 'chance their arm' following the sales of stakes at second tier rivals Ipswich Town and Wrexham, as per journalist Matt Slater.

As per his update, the owners have asked merchant bank BDT & MSD Partners to look for a new partner, with it being suspected that they value a 20% stake in the club at £20 million.

Slater ensured that there is no reason for Charlton fans to worry following this news, as per South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition.

"No need for fans to worry," he said.

"Losses are rising in the Championship. Revenues are rising but costs are rising faster! So it's rational for the owners to spread the pain a bit.

"By selling stakes along the way, they get to bank some profits now."

When asked how likely it is that Charlton will find a new investor, Slater provided a couple of pros and cons.

"On the plus side, foreigners like London. Charlton also have Premier League pedigree.

"On the minus side, that was a while ago and you don't own your stadium."

Nathan Jones reveals January intentions — he wants to keep James Bree

Charlton boss Jones has made it clear this week that the January transfer window is one he will use to tweak his squad rather than make major changes.

He explained that there are certain areas the club will address next month, while he also spoke about the futures of James Bree and Onel Hernandez, who are, respectively, set to return to their parent club and be out of contract in January, as per South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition.

"Of course I want to keep James Bree," Jones said.

"Look, we are in constant dialogue to try and do that.

"But he is Southampton's player, so they will have a decision on that as well. We'll have to adjust accordingly."

On Hernandez, Jones admitted that there is still a decision to be made.

"Onel wasn't brought in to be a left wing-back. We've not seen the best of Onel yet," he said.

"With Onel it will be slightly different. He will be a better animal when we get everyone back.

"That is the decision we have."

Jones gives backing to Miles Leaburn

Charlton striker Miles Leaburn signed a new three-year contract with the club in July, ahead of his first season in the Championship.

The 22-year-old has only scored one goal so far this season, which came during the Addicks' 3-0 win against Ipswich at Portman Road back in October.

He missed a gilt-edged chance to equalise against Birmingham City last weekend, which has prompted Jones to come out and back him this week, via South London Sport: Charlton Athletic Edition.

"He should have scored that but other things like his link-up play, work rate and stretch-play were excellent," Jones said.

"I'm telling you, if you bring all that together you are this close to being a top number nine at this level.

"The work we need to do is to get a six feet five or six feet six player with his natural ability to start knocking people over and taking every chance.”

Jones spoke in defence of Tyreece Campbell prior to the trip to Birmingham and the forward repaid him with a goal, so the Welshman will no doubt hope that his positive words will have the same effect on Leaburn ahead of a crucial game against Oxford United at The Valley on Saturday.
