The Addicks are looking to strengthen their back line, and have turned their attention to the Serbian league for their next potential addition.

Charlton Athletic are preparing a significant seven-figure bid for a centre-back who is currently playing his football in Serbia's top flight.

This news comes after the Addicks agreed a deal with fellow Championship side Wrexham for the services of Conor Coady on loan until the end of the season.

Nathan Jones' side are currently 19th in the table, just three points above the relegation zone, and after a devastating 4-0 defeat to rivals Millwall at the weekend, the former Southampton boss is looking to add to his team's defence for the final part of the campaign.

While Charlton have missed out on Junior Ligue, a move for Coady will be welcomed by those at The Valley, with the ex-Everton centre-back a player with plenty of experience, while the club are pushing the boat out financially with their next potential signing.

Charlton Athletic plot £2m bid for Collins Sichenje

According to a report from Alan Nixon, the Addicks are planning on a £2m move for Kenyan centre-back, Collins Sichenje.

The 22-year-old plays his football for Serbian Super Liga side Vojvodina, and has made 17 appearances for his team as they look to mount pressure on those above them in the table, with his current club sat third. He has also scored once, and he is in his second year in Serbia after leaving Swedish outfit AIK in September 2024.

Sichenje is 'keen' on moving to England, and despite Charlton fighting for survival, he is willing to join the battle and demonstrate his talents to those at The Valley in the coming months.

The defender has eight caps for the Kenyan national team, finding the back of the net once, and he will be looking to earn his place back in the squad ahead of March's international break.

Charlton Athletic are playing their hand in the relegation fight

With the battle for survival so tight at the bottom of the Championship, this is a vital week for Charlton as they look to avoid relegation back to League One in their first season back in the second tier.

Despite starting the campaign so well, the Addicks have had a really tough couple of months, and they have won just three of their last 14 league games.

Jones knows that his side need to be stronger defensively, and with Lyndon Dykes signed to help bring more power to the forward line, Sichenje and Coady can do exactly that for the back line.

This weekend's away clash against Leicester City is vital for Charlton, and they know that a defeat could see them drop into further danger.
