Jimmy of Blades Ramble has explained his feelings on Gus Hamer as a valuation has emerged for the Sheffield United talisman...

Sheffield United have just four fixtures remaining of their Championship campaign, which are likely to be the final games for some of their 2025/26 squad - including talisman Gus Hamer.

The playmaker won the Championship Player of the Season award last year, but he has been unable to hit those heights this term in terms of guiding the Blades into a promotion battle.

Hamer's individual numbers though haven't suffered, becoming more of an assist machine if anything as opposed to the goalscorer he was more of last season, and that's likely going to see him garner significant interest this summer, having seen the likes of Trabzonspor, Sevilla and Cremonese all keen in January.

He joined from Coventry City in 2023, but Sheffield United are facing a gutting reality with Hamer now, with the Dutchman in his second season of Championship football in a row and unlikely to be that keen to complete a third.

Gus Hamer transfer valuation claim made as Sheffield United braced for exit

Jimmy, host of the Blades Ramble YouTube channel and FLW's Sheffield United fan pundit, was asked how much Hamer could command in terms of a transfer fee this summer.

He told FLW: "I think we have to be realistic with Gus Hamer. He's got a year left on his contract and he's not got much resale value after this move.

"So, whoever is buying him isn't buying him as an investment. They can't really sell him on for a fee. I think, with him being down to his last 12 months, the ball is in his court really.

"He knows he holds the cards and I think we'll be looking at something between £8 million-£10 million? And, you know, for a player of his talent, that is cheap.

"I think people will be attracted to that sort of price but a club in our position can't turn that sort of money down for a player we would lose for nothing in 12 months' time.

"So, I think that will be around the price. £8 million-£10 million will get somebody Gus Hamer."

Sheffield United's Gus Hamer has interest already mounting

If Hamer is to stay in England, Coventry could be the Premier League move for him. However, a move abroad seems more likely for the 28-year-old in the summer.

As already alluded to, Trabzonspor, Sevilla, and Cremonense all registered interest in Hamer earlier this year, with clubs sure to be keen in the Dutchman now that the Blades' promotion hopes have ended in the last month.

Hamer is undoubtedly set to be one of the Championship’s most in-demand players this summer. He is a match-winner and excels with his ball-striking, creativity between the lines, and his ability to dictate games through progressive passing and set-piece wizardry.

Hamer’s knack for arriving in advanced areas and contributing goals only enhances his appeal. With price likely reduced, he represents a clear market opportunity. How will the Blades replace him in a year when parachute payments end?
