The red card streak continues for Chelsea in the Premier League. After picking up yet another red card this Sunday against Arsenal, the Blues now have a total of seven dismissals this season. They are well ahead of their closest rivals, notably Everton (4) and Tottenham (3). With seven expulsions already, the English top flight is seeing its disciplinary thermometer spike. And for Chelsea FC, indiscipline is becoming as hot a topic as their results.

This is unlikely to be the only talking point in the London dressing room. Against Arsenal FC, Pedro Neto was first booked for dissent following Jurrien Timber's opening goal. Just three minutes later, the Portuguese winger was penalised again for a late challenge on Gabriel Martinelli. The outcome: a red card and the final twenty minutes played with ten men against eleven.

A scenario that's becoming all too familiar for Chelsea.

A worrying trend

Seven red cards in the Premier League this season: the number is striking. Even more telling, it's seven different players who have been sent off this campaign. Before Pedro Neto, there were Moises Caicedo, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella, and Malo Gusto. It's worth noting that Chelsea aren't leading across the top five European leagues. In fact, Oviedo in Spain's La Liga tops the list with eight expulsions, with Federico Vinas alone receiving three red cards this season. Nevertheless, the Blues have already surpassed last season's Premier League leaders Arsenal (6) and have equaled Burnley, who recorded seven dismissals in the 2023-2024 season. And there are still nine matchdays left in the Premier League.
