The 19-year-old midfielder has been a regular in Ligue 1 this sesaon
Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Saint-Etienne midfielder Mathis Amougou for more than £10million.
The 19-year-old has played for France at Under-18 level and is set to move to Stamford Bridge on a long-term contract.
Chelsea have been searching the market for a new midfielder and have struck a deal for Amougou before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Amougou has impressed in 17 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, despite Saint-Etienne struggling near the bottom of the table.
Reports in France suggest Chelsea’s owners BlueCo could send Amougou on loan to their sister club Strasbourg.
But Chelsea, assuming deadline-day deals for Joao Felix to join AC Milan and Carney Chukwuemeka to join Borussia Dortmund go through, Chelsea have reached their limit on foreign loans this season.
Amougou was a regular starter for Saint-Etienne in the first few months of the season under their previous head coach Olivier Dall’Oglio, but he has been used more as a substitute under new boss Eirik Horneland.
Felix is in Italy to seal a loan move to AC Milan after agreeing to move to Serie A to get more regular football.
Chukwuemeka is set to join Dortmund after being encouraged by Enzo Maresca to make a move this month.
