Chelsea and Tottenham linked with major approach for Liverpool’s top target | OneFootball

A report from CaughtOffside today has thrown Chelsea into the mix as a team potentially interested in signing Marc Guehi.

The defender’s move to Liverpool from Crystal Palace looked to be on all summer – but it fell apart on deadline day after the Eagles failed to sign a replacement. He must be gutted right now, but has some time on England duty to get his head right, and he can then focus on playing one more season with the London side he captains.

He misses a potential title charge at Anfield, but there is a huge upside. The 25 year old can now move on a free transfer next summer, and you can bet he will have his pick of some of the top clubs in Europe. It still feels likely that he goes to Liverpool, but Chelsea are now at least in a position to make an attempt.

They, along with Tottenham and Man U are listed as teams who will be putting forward their case for Guehi’s signature next summer. We would be very surprised if there weren’t many more than that who make a pitch.

Chelsea already stocked at the back – but hard to say no to top opportunity

Chelsea’s central defensive position should be pretty solid from next summer. Levi Colwill will be back from his injury, Mamadou Sarr will have arrived from Strasbourg, hopefully one of Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile will have managed to get fit and stay fit. Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo are solid.

But would we say no to Guehi? On a free? It might be too good an opportunity to turn down. We saw with Tosin last summer that we’re always on the lookout for good deals.
