Famous London rivalry will be heading to a brand new location in 2026
Chelsea and Tottenham will go head to head in Sydney as part of both clubs’ preparations for next season.
It marks a relatively swift return to Australia for Spurs, who took on West Ham in Perth in 2023 at the start of former manager Ange Postecoglou's reign and then played a post-season friendly against Newcastle in Melbourne almost a year later.
Tottenham also faced Arsenal last summer in Hong Kong in the first north London derby ever to be played outside the UK.
It will be a similar situation next year with a first fixture against Chelsea on foreign soil taking place in the Sydney Super Cup at Accor Stadium.
The ground holds up to 83,500 fans and will host the two London clubs for a blockbuster pre-season fixture on August 1, 2026, kicking off at 7.45pm local time.
That match comes a few days after Spurs face A-League side Sydney FC on July 29 at the Allianz Arena.
Chelsea also have two matches scheduled for the Australian leg of their pre-season plans.
The Blues will play Western Sydney Wanderers at Accor Stadium on July 28, before they turn their focus to Spurs.
Chelsea Women will be in Australia too, taking on an A-League Women All-Stars side on August 12.
“Sydney is one of the world’s most iconic locations for sport and I’m excited to be able to take the team there to play two matches, including one against one of our biggest rivals," Tottenham boss Thomas Frank said.
“I’ve heard all about our passionate fanbase in Australia and it’s something the Club is very proud of. I can’t wait to experience that for myself and I know the supporters will love the opportunity to watch us take on Sydney FC and Chelsea in their home country.
“While in Sydney, as well as engaging with our fans, it’s important that we explore the local area and celebrate its culture – that is something we are all looking forward to.”
Chelsea’s director of travel and touring Pete Nuttall said: “We look forward to travelling to Sydney as part of our pre-season tour to take part in what is going to be a fantastic competition and celebration of football, as we make our preparations for the 2026/27 season.”
