In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Chelsea are in the mix to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero this summer. It has been mentioned that the Blues would have to compete with Inter Milan, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in the race to sign the Argentine talent this off-season.

Romero’s Inconsistent Form In North London

Romero had to endure an up-and-down campaign at the North London club recently, but managed to put in a run of solid performances at the centre of their backline. The 28-year-old scored six times and picked up four assists in 32 appearances for Tottenham last season across all fronts.

The Argentina international remains one of the best centre-backs in his homeland. Hence, it is no surprise that the Blues are eyeing a move to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer.

His current contract at the North London club will expire in the summer of 2029, which could make it tough for the Blues to land him on a cut-price deal in this transfer window.

What Will Romero Bring To Chelsea?

Romero loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and can use his strong 1.85m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.

However, the Argentine talent can be a bit reckless with his tackles, which he needs to address in the coming seasons. Still, Romero has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Stamford Bridge if the Blues manage to get a deal done for him this summer.

We can expect Romero to bring more bite and steel to Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the West London club next season.

At 28, Romero is playing in his prime and has what it takes to make an immediate impact for Chelsea. He will also help the Blues get back to challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League over the next few years. Thus, Alonso should focus on getting him on board this off-season.
