Chelsea can improve “50%” in Conference League and should win it says club hero

In typical fashion, Chelsea’s season has been very up and down. The Blues started so strong that a collapse in the winter felt unexpected, but they’ve now managed to string some results together and have reached this exceptionally long international break with a chance to right the ship.

While they’re out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, they are still in the UEFA Europa Conference League, and that brings their biggest chance of silverware this season. Every team left in the competition operates on a fraction of the budget of the Blues, and there should be no excuses for coming home empty handed.

Legendary club captain John Terry agrees:

“We’re certainly the best team in it. In our games, we’ve played 50 per cent of what we can and still come out on top. I’d like to think the bigger the game the better the players will get,” the former Blue said in an interview with the Evening Standard.

Conference League lift a must for developing Chelsea

That’s putting it mildly. For the first half of the competition, we didn’t even have some key players like Cole Palmer registered. Since their return, we’ve still not played anywhere close to our potential, as our form and play in general has been poor since December.

Winning is a habit, as they say, and winning trophies even more so. As Terry pointed out, this could be a big moment for many of the younger players in the squad:

“This good experience for those [younger] guys. Noni [Madueke] is coming back, Reece James needs the games as well. We’re more than well equipped to go and win this trophy.”

We’d go even further than that – given the budget disparity, it would be a disaster to not win this trophy. Of course anything can happen in football, but anything other than lifting it would be a real disappointment, let’s not fool ourselves.
