Chelsea have confirmed the signing of highly-rated winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP.
The 19-year-old has signed a long-term contract running until 2034 as Chelsea continue their policy of investing in some of Europe’s brightest emerging players.
Quenda arrives in London after establishing himself as one of the standout youngsters in Portuguese football during his time at Sporting.
The teenager enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Lisbon, helping Sporting secure a domestic league and cup double while earning widespread praise for his performances.
Capable of operating on either wing, as a wing-back or in more advanced attacking roles, Quenda’s versatility has been one of the defining features of his rapid rise.
He was named the Primeira Liga Young Player of the Season in 2025.
Quenda also made history in European competition by becoming the youngest Portuguese player to score in the Champions League.
His development has continued at international level.
The winger has become a regular for Portugal’s youth sides and was included in the Team of the Tournament at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Speaking after completing his move, Quenda expressed his excitement about beginning the next chapter of his career.
“It feels great to be here,” he told Chelsea’s official website. “Chelsea is a great team, and I am excited to play here at Stamford Bridge.”
Chelsea believe Quenda possesses the technical quality, athleticism and mentality to become an important player in the coming years.
His arrival also provides manager Xabi Alonso with another dynamic attacking option as he reshapes the squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
Attention will now turn to how quickly the Portuguese prospect can adapt to English football as he looks to fulfil the enormous potential that made him one of the continent’s most sought-after young talents.
