Chelsea will consider moves for Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon or Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, if a deal can not be agreed for Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet.
Liam Rosenior is prioritising the arrival of a centre-back this month and Chelsea are in talks with Rennes over a deal for the highly-rated Jacquet. The 20-year-old has become a Rennes regular this season with clubs across Europe taking note of his performances.
Chelsea want to win the race in the winter window, though Rennes are reluctant to sell. The French side are demanding a fee higher than the €64m (£55.4m) club-record sale that took Jeremy Doku to Manchester City in 2023.
If Chelsea do not match that asking price, the West Londoners have alternatives in mind. Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that Ramon and Senesi are also on their radar.
Ramon has impressed since joining Como from Real Madrid last summer with Liverpool also monitoring the 21-year-old.
However, Real Madrid have a buy-back option which Los Blancos are considering triggering at the end of the season. Given Ramon only joined Como last summer, he is also tied down to a long-term contract.
Senesi appears a more straightforward deal. The Argentine’s deal expires in the summer and Bournemouth could cash in now to avoid losing him as a free agent. Chelsea are yet to approach Bournemouth to discuss a deal.
There’s also interest from Spain in Senesi for the summer, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid keen to sign the defender as a free agent.
