In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo revealed that Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella wants to seal a move to Barcelona this summer. It is believed that the Spanish full-back is open to parting ways with the Blues in favour of a switch to the Nou Camp this off-season.

Cucurella’s Up-And-Down Season In The Premier League

Cucurella endured an inconsistent campaign at the West London club, but managed to put in a run of impressive displays for them on the left flank. The Spanish defensive ace found the back of the net once and earned four assists in 50 matches for Chelsea last season in various competitions.

The 27-year-old is currently one of the most experienced left-backs in the Premier League. Therefore, Chelsea would find it difficult to replace him in this transfer window.

Cucurella is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2029. Thus, the Blues are under no immediate pressure to let him go this off-season.

Should Chelsea Boss Xabi Alonso Cash In On Cucurella?

Cucurella is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to make some important interceptions for his side inside his half when he is playing well on the pitch.

The Spanish sensation doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is a decent crosser of the ball as well. He can even chip in by scoring and creating the odd goal for his team from the left flank. Cucurella is primarily a left-back but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager. He has got a wealth of experience in the Premier League and remains an important member of Chelsea’s match-day squad.

However, the Spaniard has his heart set on a move to Barcelona. Hence, the Blues could struggle to retain his services beyond this summer.

Cucurella has been a great servant to Chelsea, so it is only fair to the player if Alonso allows him to leave this off-season. At 27, Cucurella is about to enter his prime. Still, the Blues should consider cashing in on him and using the money acquired from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement in this transfer window.
