All that mattered in Friday night’s Chelsea – Man United game from the Blues’ point of view was the 3 points, and they got them.
It was a pretty ugly game, with not a lot of quality from either side and desperately few chances. But Marc Cucurella’s header in the 70th minute got the job done and got his team over the line.
Now that the euphoria of the win has faded, we can look a little deeper at the numbers, and they’re not pretty. With Nicolas Jackson suspended, Chelsea used Tyrique George as a false 9, and the winger really struggled up top.
The Blues crossing stats were truly remarkable. And not in a good way.
Pedro Neto swung in 7 – only one of them found it’s target.
Noni Madueke 4 – none of them found their mark. It was a shocking showing from both wingers on that front.
things weren’t much better from the rest of the team – Cole Palmer and Reece James also failed to connect with their crosses. That made for a total of 2 completed from 13.

Watching their team try (and fail) to hit their targets in the box was massively frustrating for Chelsea fans, who once again bemoaned the lack of a proper striker in the box to make the most of these opportunities.
Social media was full of calls for the team to renew their efforts to sign Victor Osimhen, a target from last summer whose move fell through thanks to wage concerns.
The Nigerian target man would have been eating up some of these balls in – there’s no way that the Man U defence would have had such an easy time with Osimhen on the field.
