One of the reasons a new defender wasn’t signed in the summer, when previous manager Enzo Maresca asked for one, was that it was thought a new addition would block Acheampong’s development.

In the end, however, Maresca kept preferring other options like Tosin and Benoit Badiashile instead. Romano has insisted that the arrival of a new defender doesn’t mean that Acheampong will be heading out on loan.

“Adding a new centre back in January does not mean anything for Josh Acheampong. Chelsea still trust him,” Romano said on his stream.

“Despite all the rumours we will have about Josh Acheampong, his situation remains absolutely, absolutely quiet.”

That’s what we like to hear. Last night marked Josh’s fourth start in a row for the first team, his longest run yet. With Malo Gusto and Reece James both used in other positions and both currently struggling with knocks, Acheampong should continue to pick up games even if a new central option comes in.

Estevao was superb in the defeat to Arsenal last night, increasing the calls for him to be a major part of this team as a starter going forward. His dribbling was sublime, and pretty much the only way that Chelsea were able to get at the Gunners defensively.

It’s been a very quiet January for Chelsea so far, but it could be about to get busier. Filip Jorgensen is another player linked with a winter exit, as West Ham sniff around him.
