Liverpool and Chelsea were two of the Premier League's busiest teams in the transfer window last summer.
Both clubs seemed to be trying to sign the same players with each of them wanting to improve on their performance from the season prior.
In the end, the Blues beat Liverpool to the signing of Joao Pedro and Liverpool beat Chelsea to the transfer of Hugo Ekitike.
Both moves have been fairly successful with the strikers two of the best signings that Premier League clubs made this season.
However, now that the 2026-27 summer transfer window is just around the corner, rumours are starting to emerge with Chelsea actually have an advantage over Liverpool with a move for one Premier League attacker.
Both clubs spent an obscene amount of money on new attackers last summer.
Alexander Isak was the most expensive signing of the lot with the Sweden international breaking the British transfer record with his £125 million switch.
Unfortunately, his transfer hasn't worked out as anyone would've wanted and now, Liverpool are scouring the market for new attackers once again.
Newcastle's Anthony Gordon is reportedly on the top of their shortlist but, since he's available for around £69 million, several other clubs are also interested in making a move for the Englishman.
And now, as per an update from journalist Christian Falk, it seems like Chelsea may have a slight edge in the transfer chase for Gordon.
"There was a meeting with Chelsea, contact with Liverpool, contact with Arsenal… they’re allowed to do that, as they know Newcastle need the money this summer to keep on the right side of Financial Fair Play," he wrote.
"Barcelona were offered the player, but they can’t afford the kind of transfer fee we’ve been talking about. Bayern, on the other hand, could pay this if they wish to.
"So it’s getting interesting to see who’s joining the poker table. I’m personally more afraid of Chelsea, as they have the resources to make a deal happen.
"Not to mention, they could use Nicolas Jackson as a makeweight in a potential swap deal (and we know Newcastle are interested in the Senegal international).
"But, I think Bayern Munich still have a good chance to get this deal done, as they were very early on the market for Gordon."
Gordon has been linked with a Liverpool transfer for as long as many can remember.
The Englishman is a Liverpool supporter with one of his best friends, Curtis Jones, currently playing for the club.
Of course, the transfer window isn't even open yet so there's plenty of time for decisions to be made but, since the Reds have been linked with a move for Gordon ever since he played for Everton, it wouldn't make sense for them to allow him to join another club.
His versatility, coupled with his unrelenting speed and his keen eye for goal make him the perfect candidate for a Liverpool transfer.
If Gordon doesn't end up joining Liverpool it would be a massive let-down for their fanbase with most of them seeing the 25-year-old as the perfect Luis Diaz replacement.
He'd probably also help Isak reach his full potential next term which, for a striker who cost £125 million to sign in the first place, is exactly what the Reds need.
