Hampton has enjoyed a spectacular year, winning the domestic treble with Chelsea last season before helping England win Euro 2025.

Her performances led to her placing tenth in the rankings for the Women’s Ballon d’Or award which was won by Spain’s Aitana Bonmati.

Hampton did walk away with a trophy, becoming the first recipient of the Yachine Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper of the year.

After receiving the award, she delivered an emotional speech, in which she paid tribute to former Chelsea manager Matt Beard.

The former WSL title-winning boss with Liverpool died at the age of 47 last weekend.

Sonia Bompastor hails ‘world’s best’ Hannah Hampton

Sonia Bompastor praised Hannah Hampton during her pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea vs West Ham this weekend.

She told reporters: “I’m really proud of Hannah. Her speech was incredible. She’s really mature [outside of] and in the pitch, she’s the best goalkeeper in the world right now and I’m glad she’s playing for Chelsea.

“Hannah’s someone who has really high standards, wants to work hard on the pitch and always wants to make sure she is in the environment to work as hard as possible to be the best one.

“She’s someone [who is] demanding but outside the pitch someone you can trust, someone you can have really good conversations with.”

Bompastor added: “I’ve known her for more than one season now, and I’m not surprised. She’s someone who has very high standards. She wants to work hard on the pitch, and she always wants to make sure she’s in the right environment to work out how it’s possible to be the best.

“She’s someone (who is) demanding, but also off the pitch, she’s someone who you can trust, you can have some really good conversations with. It’s important for us also to recognise that.”

What’s next for Hampton and Chelsea?

Chelsea and Hampton will look to extend their 100 per cent record in the Women’s Super League when they face West Ham on Sunday.

The Blues are top of the table after victories over Manchester City, Aston Villa and Leicester City.

Their trip to West Ham will be followed by a massive clash with Manchester United next weekend, and then the start of their Champions League campaign, which begins with a trip to Dutch side Twente.
