According to journalist David Ornstein in The Athletic, Chelsea have made initial contact with the camp of Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez as they explore options to strengthen their attack.
While no formal talks have taken place between the two clubs, the Premier League side is monitoring the situation closely as they prepare for potential squad changes.
Fermin has impressed with his performances at Barcelona and is viewed as a player with attacking instinct who could adapt well to the Premier League.
At the moment, communication has only taken place with the player’s entourage, but not directly with Barça.
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona currently boast significant depth in midfield, with Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Dani Olmo, Marc Casado, Marc Bernal and Gavi all competing for starting roles.
Despite this depth, Fermin is seen as a valuable asset for Flick due to his dynamism and goal threat from midfield.

Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari has also reported that Barcelona do not plan to sacrifice Fermin despite Chelsea’s interest.
However, the situation is complicated by the club’s ongoing financial difficulties.
A potential €50 million fee for Fermin would provide a significant boost, allowing the Blaugrana to register new arrivals such as Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin and Roony Bardghji, who are still waiting for the departures of Inaki Pena, Oriol Romeu, and Hector Fort to be finalised.
For Barça, the next few days of the transfer window will be decisive. While selling Fermin could relieve immediate financial pressure, it would also weaken the squad and deprive Flick of one of his most promising midfielders.
The Catalan giants must therefore weigh short-term financial relief against long-term sporting stability, with Fermin’s future hanging in the balance as the transfer deadline approaches.
