Senegal striker’s future made concrete after helping German giants to yet another Bundesliga title

Nicolas Jackson will return to Chelsea this summer after Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the Bundesliga champions do not intend to make his loan move permanent.

The Senegalese moved to Germany last summer on loan with an option to buy after a chaotic late-window transfer saga, but has struggled to establish as anything more than Harry Kane’s understudy.

He has tallied 10 goals and four assists in 29 appearances across all competitions but has failed to convince the club’s executives to trigger his £56million buy option.

Eberl was unequivocal as he told Sky Germany: “We will not trigger the option for Nicolas Jackson.”

Jackson will return to a crisis-stricken Chelsea this summer, having missed another chaotic season at Stamford Bridge, which has seen the Blues part company with two managers.

He ended last season on a sour note before moving to the Allianz Arena, though, as he was sent off in two of his last five matches for the club.

He will hope to make a fresh start with the club as it heads into the 2026/27 campaign under new management, and may be encouraged by Liam Delap’s poor form.

Jackson pushed to leave west London last summer after Delap was bought from Ipswich and Joao Pedro from Brighton, leaving him facing huge competition for minutes.

While Joao Pedro has impressed, Delap has endured a torrid debut campaign with Chelsea, scoring just twice in 36 appearances.

Another summer of upheaval is expected at Chelsea this summer, with the club expected to desert its youth-focused transfer strategy in favour of signing more experienced talent. The priority, though, will be signing a new manager, with Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Cesc Fabregas all linked with the job.

Eberl added that Bayern have no intention to sell ex-Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise this summer, and that talks will be opened with veteran shotstopper Manuel Neuer over a new contract.

He said: “For us, there is not a second of thinking about it [selling Michael Olise this summer]. He is developing excellently.

“He [Manuel Neuer] is a legend. We will sit down and talk calmly. If Manuel feels ready for it, I wouldn’t know what would speak against him doing it for one more year.”
