A low-key London derby was settled early in the second half when Enzo Fernandez headed home Cole Palmer’s cross. Moises Caicedo thought he had doubled the lead soon after but his stunning strike was chalked off following a VAR check.

The technology then came to the Blues’ rescue after Pape Matar Sarr found the back of the net, but the Spurs substitute was adjudged to have fouled Caicedo in the build-up and his goal too was disallowed.

Chelsea held on to seal a fifth straight home win across all competitions, and more importantly, boost their chances of Champions League qualification.

Here’s how Enzo Maresca’s side rated at Stamford Bridge...

Robert Sanchez 7

Good and positive in dealing with crosses but got away with one when failing to keep out Sarr strike, only for VAR to intervene. Massive save from Son late on, though.

Malo Gusto 6

Went close when finding side-netting early on. Deliveries were threatening without quite finding target.

Trevor Chalobah 7

Played a couple of exquisite passes, including one in behind for Jackson inside a minute. Booked for part in scuffle on half-time.

Levi Colwill 6

Just offside in build-up to what would have been clinching Caicedo strike. Nullified Solanke.

Marc Cucurella 6

Given the generally chaotic nature of the game, an oddly uneventful night for a player usually at the centre of every controversy.

Moises Caicedo 6

Achieved the fair feat of running off a dead leg, having looked like he would have to go off after clash with Djed Spence.

Enzo Fernandez 8

Delightful flick for Palmer in midfield. Found plenty of space to get at back-four and made the box completely unmarked to nod key opener.

Pedro Neto 6

Teased from the right but overhit several crosses when well-placed. Booked.

Cole Palmer 7

Returned after missing the Arsenal defeat and England duty. Unlucky with ball pulled across goal line but fine cross made Fernandez’s breakthrough. Booked.

Jadon Sancho 5

Infuriated with his extra touches and turns in good positions. Finally went for goal approaching half-time and was denied by brilliant Vicario save.

Nicolas Jackson 7

Back after two months out with a hamstring injury and caused problems with directness and physicality. Hit post when deflecting Van de Ven clearance. Booked.
