A Chelsea player has turned down a salary that is around five times more than he currently earns to stay at the club.

We’ve seen a pretty hectic transfer window and a hectic deadline day. Even though Chelsea only loaned in a player from Brighton on deadline day, there was plenty going on, mostly around outgoing deals.

EXCLUSIVE! How Chelsea ‘scrambled’ to sign a new striker on deadline day and turned to Wolves!

All throughout the summer we kept hearing speculation about the future of some Chelsea players and whether they would go or stay.

One Chelsea player who we kept hearing rumours around was midfielder Andrey Santos and whether he would be leaving.

The concerns were around the fact that Santos is not at the moment going to be a regular starter in this Chelsea side when everyone is fit, due to the fact that he has the likes of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, and Cole Palmer ahead of him who play in those central roles right now, as well as others such as Romeo Lavia who will hopefully be returning from injury soon.

But Santos stayed at Chelsea this summer, but it was not for a lack of interest or other clubs making attempts to sign him.

According to UOL in Brazil, Andrey Santos turned down a salary base of €8m from Al Qadsiyah, around 5x times more than he earns at Chelsea. Al Qadsiyah, who belong to Aramco, the country’s oil state company, offered £60m to Chelsea.

You have to respect that

It might not be a desirable club to go to for a young player and many young players are also not keen on going to Saudi and I also understand that. But that is a lot of money being offered to a young player so you have to respect the fact that he turned it down to stay at Chelsea.

I also respect the fact that Chelsea turned down a lot of money to keep him at the club.
