Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has reportedly caused frustration among some teammates after a series of public and private displays of anger during the club’s recent slump in form.

The Argentina international, who is Chelsea’s vice-captain, has been vocal both on the pitch and in the dressing room during a difficult period for the team.

Chelsea have suffered four consecutive defeats across competitions, including a damaging elimination from the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

Fernandez’s reaction to those setbacks has reportedly irritated some members of the squad.

The 25-year-old has openly criticised team-mates during matches and has also been outspoken behind closed doors following defeats to PSG, Newcastle United and Everton in recent weeks.

His behaviour during the Champions League tie against PSG drew particular attention.

During the first leg in Paris, Fernandez reacted angrily to an error by Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen that led to a goal.

The midfielder threw the match ball towards the goalkeeper and confronted him over the mistake.

Fernandez also raised questions about his own future at Stamford Bridge following the game.

Speaking to ESPN Argentina, the midfielder declined to guarantee that he would remain at the club beyond the end of the season.

“I don’t know,” Fernandez said when asked about his future. “There are eight games left and the FA Cup, then there is the World Cup, and we will see.”

The comments have reportedly caused unease among some players, given his leadership role within the squad.

Fernandez has worn the captain’s armband in recent matches due to the hamstring injury suffered by club captain Reece James.

The midfielder joined Chelsea from Benfica for £106.8 million in January 2023.

He is one of the most influential figures in the squad, but his leadership style has now become a talking point during a difficult period for the club.

Chelsea are currently pushing to finish inside the Premier League’s top five while also competing in the FA Cup.

How Fernandez manages his role within the dressing room could prove significant during the final weeks of the season.
