Three games are not enough to judge a team on too deeply – at this stage in the season, it’s more about which teams you’ve faced so far than anything else.
But it’s still promising to see Chelsea rated among the top 10 teams in Europe going by WhoScored. The Blues have won two games and drawn one, but still have yet to play a top team.
An incomplete Chelsea squad train at Cobham.
Still, their 6.95 rating is very solid, albeit boosted by battering West Ham so comfortably in Gameweek 2,
It puts them in 6th place, behind Bayern Munich, Lille, Frankfurt, Villareal and Koln among teams from Europe’s top 5 leagues.
Their nearest Premier League competitors are Tottenham, who are 15th ranked, Crystal Palace who are 16th, Arsenal who are 19th and Liverpool who are way down in 21st.
That is in itself a good reminder that this stat is still very much dictated by fixtures at this stage – the Reds are top of the actual league and their ranking isn’t so great here because they’re faced tough teams.
After this international break and before the next one we face Brentford, Man U, Brighton and Liverpool. That’s a much trickier run. We also face serious Champions League challenges in that time.
At that point we will have a much better idea of how good this team is, and we can check back in on this stat and see if we’ve managed to hold our place. If we’re still 6th then, that will likely mean we’re top of the league.
We will also have a better idea of how the new signings are settling in, and how we’re coping with the injuries which are already stacking up in our squad.
