Chelsea hope Wesley Fofana can return before the end of the season to help the Blues in their quest to qualify for the Champions League according to journalist Kieran Gill.
Fofana has been plagued by injury issues since his big money move from Leicester in the summer of 2022 and has only made 32 appearances for the club in total.
The 24-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in the win against Aston Villa in December and Enzo Maresca stated he thought the France international could miss the rest of the season.
Fofana was starting to form a really good partnership with Levi Colwill, with the pair Maresca’s first choice defensive pairing.
The Blues have certainly missed Fofana, and his injury coupled with Benoit Badiashile also being sidelined led the club to recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Crystal Palace.

Chalobah slotted back in seamlessly and was named man of the match in Monday night’s win against Wolves, and is set to play a key role over the second half of the season.
When fit Fofana is arguably Chelsea’s best defender, and Mail Sport have reported the France international could return before the end of the season if all goes to plan.
The report adds Chelsea won’t rush Fofana’s rehab, but he’s now back out on the grass doing running drills and is making good progress in his recovery.
Maresca is a big fan of Fofana and has admitted he loves the defender, who’s skillset seems perfectly suited to how the 44-year-old wants to play.

A return before the end of the season would be great news for both Fofana and Chelsea, but his constant injury issues will no doubt be a concern, and the club will be desperate to get the bottom of it.
For as good as Chelsea’s other defensive options are, it’s hard to argue the Blues aren’t a better side with Fofana in it.
