Chelsea have sacked head coach Liam Rosenior ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley. The club said in a statement that under-21s boss Calum McFarlane will serve as interim head coach for the rest of the season, supported by existing backroom staff.

The Blues arrived at Brighton on Tuesday on a dire run, four successive Premier League defeats without scoring.

They were beaten 3-0 at the Amex, extending that run to five league defeats without a goal for the first time since 1912.

Rosenior was thanked for his efforts and praised for integrity and professionalism following his mid-season appointment, with the decision described as not taken lightly after results and performances fell below required standards.

Chelsea aim to secure European qualification and continue their FA Cup campaign under McFarlane, while undertaking a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment.
