Chelsea have announced a pre-contract agreement to sign Dutch striker Emanuel Emegha (22) from partner club Strasbourg in 2026, strengthening the ties between the two clubs under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s BlueCo ownership model.
The 22-year-old Netherlands Under-21 international will remain in Ligue 1 for at least another season, captaining Strasbourg in their first European campaign since 2020 before committing to a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge. Emegha, who has scored 23 goals in 57 league appearances, is regarded as one of the French side’s most influential players under manager Liam Rosenior.
Reports from BBC Sport suggest Emegha rejected interest from Champions League clubs across Europe, as well as Premier League suitors, to agree terms with Chelsea earlier this year. His forthcoming arrival is believed to have influenced the Blues’ decision not to pursue a striker on deadline day, despite the injury to Liam Delap that will sideline him for up to 12 weeks.
The move underscores the increasingly integrated relationship between Chelsea and Strasbourg since BlueCo acquired the French side for £65m in 2023. Six player transactions took place between the clubs this summer, including Ben Chilwell’s surprise permanent switch to Strasbourg, while several academy talents, such as Kendry Paez and Mike Penders, have moved between the two.
However, Emegha’s pre-agreement will inevitably spark further debate over UEFA’s stance on multi-club ownership. While Manchester City and Manchester United were cleared to compete in Europe despite similar ties to Girona and Nice, Chelsea’s growing pipeline with Strasbourg will continue to attract scrutiny as the regulatory landscape evolves.
For now, Chelsea appear to have secured a long-term solution in attack, betting on Emegha’s leadership and Ligue 1 pedigree to translate to Premier League success.
