Chelsea sign Melvine Malard from Man Utd | OneFootball

Chelsea have completed the signing of Melvine Malard from Manchester United on a four-year deal.

Malard becomes the Blues' new number nine with Sonia Bompastor's side needing to reinforce in attack as they look to reclaim the WSL title next season.

The 26-year-old has signed on until the end of the 2029/30 season for a fee reported to be worth £850,000 for the player who had one year remaining on her contract with the Red Devils.

Malard initially joined Manchester United on loan from OL Lyonnes at the start of the 2023/24 season before the deal was made permanent the following summer. In total, Malard featured 95 times for Marc Skinner's side in all competitions, scoring 23 goals and making 16 assists.

"I'm so happy because I have a plan for my life and my career, and Chelsea were a part of that plan," Malard said on becoming a Blues player.

"It is a great club and a big club so I am very excited to get started. I have played against Chelsea a lot of times and have always lost so I know the team have good players. And I have known Sonia since I was 14 years old, so it is great to work with her again.

"My objective is to become better every single day and to win trophies. I know Chelsea always have that as an objective and I have that ambition too.

"I am also really looking forward to playing at Stamford Bridge on a regular basis. The atmosphere is incredible and the pitch is close to the fans, so you really feel their energy. I love that."
