Chelsea head to Newcastle hoping to cement their position in the Premier League’s top four and Saturday’s trip to St James’ Park is live on TNT Sports 1 with a scheduled kick-off time of 12.30pm.

Both teams booked their place in the EFL Cup semi-finals in midweek, with Newcastle overcoming Fulham 2-1 at home and Chelsea proving too strong for League One opponents Cardiff in a 3-1 success in Wales.

Chelsea snapped a three-game winless run in the Premier League with last Saturday’s 2-0 victory at home to Everton and they will be keen to follow up at Newcastle, who have won the last four meetings between the sides at St James’ Park.

Chelsea predicted lineup vs Newcastle

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Fofana, Chalobah, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Garnacho; Pedro.

Chelsea should be much-changed from the side that won 3-1 at Cardiff in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, with Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Joao Pedro among those primed to return following a well-earned rest.

Chelsea team news vs Newcastle

Chelsea are sweating on the fitness of Estevao after he missed the midweek cup win in Cardiff while Levi Colwill, Liam Delap, Dario Essugo and Romeo Lavia remain sidelined.

Blues boss Enzo Maresca showcased the strength in depth at his disposal for that EFL Cup quarter-final clash as he made 11 changes from Saturday’s win over Everton in order to freshen things up.

Robert Sanchez is expected to return in goal ahead of Filip Jorgensen and Moises Caicedo, having been suspended against the Toffees, may be the only player to retain his place in midfield alongside Enzo Fernandez.

Trevoh Chalobah and Marc Cucurella look nailed-on starters in defence and the difficulty could come at right-back with Malo Gusto in fine form, although skipper Reece James is likely to get the nod.

Having scored twice from the bench in midweek’s EFL Cup triumph, Alejandro Garnacho may be given another opportunity to shine from the left flank in the Premier League while talisman Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto and Joao Pedro will all be expected to start.

Chelsea out to end rotten run at St James’ Park

Chelsea will know that they are in for a tough afternoon at St James’ Park, an atmospheric stadium in which they have been beaten in four straight visits and managed only one goal along the way.

Throw in the fact that Newcastle are unbeaten in nine home games, winning eight of those outings, and this promises to be an informative match and should illustrate just how much progress has been made by Maresca’s men.

Club World Cup champions Chelsea are capable of some world-class performances on their day but they have failed to win on their last two away league trips, losing 3-1 at Leeds and being held to a goalless draw at Bournemouth to highlight their inconsistencies.

However, the Blues start the weekend in fourth, having taken 28 points from 16 games, and will hope to keep up the pressure on Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa and force themselves back into the title talk.
