José Mourinho has been linked with a return to Chelsea after Liam Rosenior’s exit, with Sky Sports reporting the 63-year-old is in contention.

Rosenior lasted only a few months in charge following a well-regarded spell at Strasbourg. Mourinho is currently Benfica head coach.

The report says he is viewed as the most viable option to take over next season. He previously managed Chelsea twice, winning multiple trophies.

Chelsea are the latest club to be linked with Mourinho, after Newcastle and Real Madrid.

Mourinho has repeatedly said he intends to continue at Benfica, where his contract runs until summer 2027. Even so, his continuity next season is not guaranteed.
