Blues looking to pull off famous comeback at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea require a dramatic comeback if they are to revive their Champions League campaign as Paris Saint-Germain visit Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

The Blues head into the second-leg trailing 5-2 after a late collapse at the Parc des Princes saw them concede three poor goals, leaving their hopes of progression dangling by a thread.

Liam Rosenior’s side kept pace with their hosts for much of the first leg and were level at two goals apiece after 74 minutes, but super-sub Khvicha Kvaratskhelia put them to the sword with a late brace and assist.

The Parisians were helped on their way, though, by a pair of errors from goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, given the nod over Robert Sanchez, who will miss the reverse fixture through injury.

Chelsea’s confidence took a further knock at the weekend as they flattered to deceive in a 1-0 defeat by Newcastle. PSG, meanwhile, had the weekend off and head to west London well rested.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Chelsea vs PSG is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

The match will take place at Stamford Bridge in west London.

Chelsea vs PSG team news

Chelsea were boosted ahead of the tie as Brazilian wonderkid Estevao returned to training, but it is a case of one in, one out as Reece James now finds himself sidelined with a fresh hamstring injury.

He is yet to undergo a scan, but the Blues stand to play without their captain for a matter of weeks.

His right-back understudy Malo Gusto is also a doubt for the match after falling ill this week.

Jamie Gittens is out after suffering a setback in his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Robert Sanchez is expected to start between the sticks as Filip Jorgensen remains sidelined with a groin issue. Levi Colwill is back in training but is not close to match fitness as he continues his recovery from an ACL rupture.

PSG, meanwhile, will be without Fabian Ruiz, who has been out since January. Youngster Quentin Ndjantou is out for the season.

Joao Neves shook off an ankle injury to start the reverse fixture at the Parc des Princes. Ousmane Dembele will likely start after taking on pre-match media duties.

Chelsea vs PSG prediction

Heading to Paris for the first leg, Liam Rosenior made just two changes from the Chelsea side which beat PSG in the Club World Cup final, though the match ended with a very different scoreline.

Chelsea have shown twice in recent months that they can, at least, match PSG. They may well have come home with a level aggregate scoreline afte the first leg, if not for that late capitulation.

With the home fans behind them at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea will get right up for the occasion. Start well, and they could catch PSG out.

We expect the Blues to win inside 90 minutes, but overturning that three-goal deficit may prove too tall an order.

Chelsea to win 2-1 on the night, PSG to win 6-4 on aggregate.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

The Blues require a winning margin of at three goals just to force extra-time at Stamford Bridge. They won by exactly that margin as they pipped PSG in last summer’s Club World Cup final - but can they repeat the trick?
