Time to take our mind off a painful defeat for Chelsea on Saturday by dipping into some transfer rumours on a Monday morning.

CaughtOffside have raised the idea of Dutch midfielder Kees Smit being a target for the Blues. And it makes sense. Fresh from winning the Under 19 Euros this summer, the youngster has come straight back into the AZ Alkmaar team where he’s really impressing. He’s got 3 G/A in 8 starts this season.
He would be a very BlueCo signing – brought in before he’s 20 to mature and sell for a profit or use in the first team. A move to Strasbourg next season could suit all parties nicely.
Their report says that Chelsea and Spurs are keen on signing the playmaker, who has “all the tools to develop into a top-class playmaker with the right guidance.”
There have even been comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne – let’s pump the brakes on that one a little please. We have yet to hear anything concrete from any of the big names of transfer gossip, but it does sound like we’re at the very least watching him.
We will be keeping a close eye on him – we’ve not signed many Dutch players recently and it would be fun to get one in the mix with our growing groups of Portuguese, South Americans and French.
If you really want to look back at the wreckage of the game from Saturday, you can see our analysis of Marc Guiu’s horror show here.
This all feeds into a wider problem in the game – Chelsea didn’t compete well enough in duels. Guiu was just the tip of the iceberg in this regard.
