Talented Chelsea winger Estevao is facing a race against time after suffering a serious hamstring injury.
According to The Athletic, the recent setback could scupper the Chelsea prodigy’s chances of representing Brazil at the upcoming FIFA World Cup tournament.
The 18-year-old picked up the injury during Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, limping off the pitch just 16 minutes into the game.
After the game, former Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior revealed that the talented winger was visibly emotional and reduced to tears in the dressing room.
Medical assessments carried out shortly after the match have painted an even more concerning picture.
Reports suggest that the Chelsea forward has suffered a grade four hamstring injury, which is one of the most severe types.
The World Cup kicks off on June 11, although Brazil are not in action until two days later, when they face Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finalists Morocco in their curtain-raiser.
Estevao is facing a race against time to be fit for that contest, although rushing him back to action may not bode well for his long-term fitness.
Estevao’s setback is a massive blow for both Brazil and Chelsea. The teenager has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign for the Blues after joining from Palmeiras last summer.
He has racked up eight goals and four assists in 36 games across all competitions, establishing himself as a livewire on the right flank and a handful for opposition defenders.
One of the major highlights of his campaign came against Liverpool in October 2025, when his last-minute goal helped Chelsea to seal a 2-1 Premier League victory at the Bridge.
He also helped the Blues decimate Barcelona in the Champions League, scoring a fantastic second-half goal as Chelsea ran out 3-0 winners in the League Phase.
Estevao’s breakout campaign has also put him on the map with the Brazilian national team, especially under Carlo Ancelotti’s leadership.
He has already secured 11 senior caps for the Selecao and will hope to recover in time to be named in Ancelotti’s World Cup squad.
