Chicago Fire head coach and Director of Football (DOF) Gregg Berhalter has explained the reason why the Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit signed Puso Dithejane.
The 21-year-old joined from Betway Premiership side TS Galaxy on a deal that runs until the 2029/30 campaign, with a club option for the 2030/31 season.
Dithejane left the Rockets after 63 matches and seven goals with 13 assists, having signed for the club in November 2023 after he was released by Kaizer Chiefs for refusing to be a ball boy.
Now, Berhalter has since shed light on why his team opted to lure the player to America, beating South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in the process.
“We've been scouting him for a while, and he's one of the most highly regarded talents in South Africa right now. We saw an opportunity and went for it,” the former United States of America (USA) national team coach told MIR97.
"He's a very dynamic winger, he can change the game. He's a young player who needs development, but really great attitude on the pitch, really good speed and one-on-one ability. He has a lot of attributes that make him an exciting winger, and that's what we wanted to add.
Notably, Dithejane will share a dressing room with compatriot Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who completed his move last month from Orlando Pirates.
