Kevin De Bruyne has received his first publicly confirmed offer to secure his services beyond his Manchester City career, it has been revealed.
The Belgium and Premier League footballing icon will bring an end to his career in English football at the end of the ongoing season, after Manchester City made a collective decision not to renew his contract.
As such, the 33-year-old will become available as a free agent when his existing deal expires after the campaign, which continues to see De Bruyne and his teammates fighting for a UEFA Champions League slot for next season and the FA Cup title.
Despite previously admitting that he would be open to all opportunities and would weigh up all proposals with input from his family, it appears as though a switch to the United States for the final years of his professional playing career remains the most likely direction.
That comes after the first club from Major League Soccer submitted a proposal to De Bruyne and those around the midfielder regarding a switch this summer, but that offer not being from David Beckham’s Inter Miami despite previous indications.
According to the exclusive information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, MLS side Chicago Fire have made an approach to sign Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer following the conclusion of his Manchester City stay this summer.
It is clarified that the 33-year-old will now assess all of his options in the next days and weeks, but the emergence of the aforementioned Major League Soccer side adds to the decision that is yet to be made.
Aside from widespread interest in the United States for De Bruyne from next season, it is still expected that the midfielder will receive a strong pursuit from Saudi Arabia – who have long targeted the Belgian as their next marquee signing from European competition.
Kevin De Bruyne was quizzed on the idea of a move out to the Middle-East last summer, when question marks continued to linger over his future in the game, to which he recognised the vast amounts of finance on offer to him from the Saudi Pro League.
“At my age you have to be open,” De Bruyne admitted in June 2024. “You’re talking about incredible amounts of money in what may be the end of my career. Sometimes you have to think about that. If I play there for two years, I’ll be able to earn an incredible amount.”
For now, it remains to be seen what other clubs will come forward to rival the opening offer from Chicago for the Manchester City legend, and whether there will be concrete competition from the likes of Inter Miami to pull together a staggering link-up with Lionel Messi.
