L'Equipe reports that Cholo Simeone will remain Atlético manager for the 2026-27 season after both parties decided not to trigger the release clause in his contract.

There had been speculation over a departure and interest from Inter Milan, but the intention on both sides has been to preserve stability. Structural changes at the club and the arrival of new investors have not shifted that plan.

His continuation provides short-term certainty, though a further extension beyond 2027 is not ruled out and will be assessed after the current campaign.

For now, the coach is focused on immediate objectives, including key matches against FC Barcelona and a push for the Copa del Rey. He lifted that trophy in 2013 but has not won it since.

Since 2011, Simeone has reshaped Atlético, winning multiple titles and making Champions League qualification a habit. He has previously expressed interest in coaching Inter or Argentina, yet maintains his Atlético chapter is not over.
