Chris Wood has made his long-awaited return to action, according to Nottingham Post.
The Nottingham Forest striker started for the club’s B team and marked it with a goal in a 3-0 win over Newcastle United Under-21s on Friday night.
Sidelined since October with a knee injury, he netted after 11 minutes from a Jimmy Sinclair cross, then played 45 minutes before making way at half-time.
His comeback is a major lift as Forest fight to stay in the Premier League and to progress in the Europa League.
They are 17th, above the drop only on goal difference, before Sunday’s six-pointer against 16th-placed Tottenham.
Asked if Wood could return for the Aston Villa match after the international break, head coach Vitor Pereira said he did not know and did not yet have that information, while praising him as another leader and a fantastic character who is needed for the last games.
