Christian Mawissa adds to AS Monaco’s injury woes

The injuries keep piling up for AS Monaco. Their midfield is already blighted by an injury crisis, with no experienced options available in that sector, and injuries at the back are now further limiting Adi Hutter’s options.

Paul Pogba is not yet operational and that will remain the case until after the international break. Denis Zakaria and Lamine Camara are both out for around two months. Aladji Bamba and Aleksandr Golovin are also out, and against FC Lorient, it meant that the highly inexperienced Mamadou Coulibaly played alongside Jordan Teze, a right-back by trade.

Monaco recall Kiwa

One of the few options at Hutter’s disposal was to bump Eric Dier into midfield. That will now not be possible, with Christian Mawissa (20) the latest to succumb to injury. The France youth international has suffered a hamstring injury, as per L’Équipe, and will miss several weeks of action. He will, of course, miss Monaco’s UEFA Champions League game against Manchester City on Wednesday night.

To compensate for his absence, the Principality club have recalled Bradel Kiwa from the U20 World Cup in Chile, where the Frenchman had been preparing to face South Africa tonight. It is highly unlikely, however, that he will be available to face Manchester City.
