Chelsea’s pursuit of Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons (22) has hit a stumbling block, because the Blues are struggling to part ways with Christopher Nkunku (27). RMC Sport reports that the France international’s exit from Stamford Bridge could unlock the Blues’ signing of the Dutch international. The outlet reports that Chelsea and Bayern Munich are in talks over Nkunku’s return to the Bundesliga.
But there’s a catch. Chelsea would like to permanently part ways with Nkunku, who is under contract until 2029, whereas Vincent Kompany’s Rekordmeister would prefer to sign the former PSG Academy product on loan. Nkunku and Bayern Munich have already reached an agreement on personal terms during the winter transfer window. Bayern Munich consider Nkunku as the ideal replacement for the departed Kingsley Coman.
As for Simons, who also has an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea, the Dutch international reportedly remains calm regarding his situation. RMC Sport understands that Leipzig could command a €70m fee to part ways with the former Barcelona youth graduate, who is currently facing… Bayern Munich for the Bundesliga season opener.
