FLW's Blackburn fan pundit isn't happy about the state of the club at the moment

It's been a tough summer for Blackburn Rovers so far.
Several experienced heads have departed Ewood Park in the transfer window so far. The likes of Danny Batth, Andreas Weimann and Tyrhys Dolan left at the end of their contracts, and Callum Brittain and Joe Rankin-Costello have been sold to fellow Championship opposition.
And the club may be set to lose a couple more important names shortly, as captain Lewis Travis looks to have one foot out of the door, and centre-back Dom Hyam, who is out of contract in 2026, is refusing to sign the new deal tabled by the club this summer.
Hyam played every minute of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, as Blackburn went within inches of creeping into the play-offs on the final day after an upturn in form over the final few weeks of the season.
The 29-year-old is happy at the club, but the Lancashire Telegraph have reported that Rovers may be open to a sale this season to avoid losing him for free if he is unwilling to commit to his future.
It's all a bit messy in Ewood Park, and FLW's Blackburn fan pundit, Simon Middleshurst, wouldn't be too surprised if the experienced centre-back was sold this summer.
Blackburn may sell Hyam at some point this season if they feel that the 29-year-old wouldn't extend his contract at any point past the summer of 2026. Otherwise, they'd risk losing him for free this time next year, like they did with Tyrhys Dolan.
"It wouldn't surprise me if a team came in for him, and Blackburn accepted the offer," Middlehurst said.
"It's a well-known fact that we do need the money and that we're not as financially secure as other teams in the Championship."
Blackburn have finished inside the top eight in three of the last four seasons, and when things are going well on the pitch, the pressure on the Venky's decreases.
However, this season is shaping up to be a tough one for Valerien Ismael's side on the field, and the way that Travis and now potentially Hyam are going to be let go emphasises the crisis at the club.
"It's just a continuing circus of Venkys and the lack of ambition the club is showing," he added.
"We've lost a lot of Championship experience this summer and at the back end of last season when players didn't sign contracts to stay with us, and Hyam is just another key player in the side. He and Travis are two players who could potentially be leaving.
"It's just a continuing downward spiral with Blackburn."
Replacing someone who played every minute of the season prior is a huge task, but for Blackburn, keeping Hyam isn't as tall a task as once thought.
The 29-year-old is reportedly happy to stay at Ewood Park and sign a new deal if one which matches his demands is put on the table for him.
Hyam was offered a contract on the same terms as the one he signed in 2021 upon his arrival from Coventry City, which he rejected.
Unless his demands are completely unrealistic, ensuring Hyam stays has to be a priority, as the veteran centre-back is one of Rovers' most important players. Losing him would be a disaster, but one which Blackburn fans are clearly prepared for.
