City’s pre-season preparations continued with a 0-0 draw against Manchester United at the City Football Academy on Saturday afternoon.
In what was our first outing under Andrée Jeglertz, the Blues got off to a positive start under our new boss.
City started bright as they saw a lot of possession in the first 10 minutes with Lily Murphy proving a threat on the left wing.
A poor goal-kick from Phallon Tullis-Joyce almost saw the Blues take the lead inside 15 minutes as Poppy Pritchard pounced on the United defender with an open net in front, but unfortunately, she was unable to get the ball out of her feet.
With minutes from the half-time whistle, Elisabeth Terland slipped through the City defence, but our European Champion Khiara Kheating pulled off a fantastic diving save to her left to deny the opposition as we headed into the break goalless.
Changes at half-time saw City's latest recruit between the sticks introduced to the action and it wasn't long before Eartha Cumings was tested.
The Red Devils, who finished third in the WSL last term, started the second-half on the front foot as they raced forward, but our Scottish stopper stormed out the box and slid in to make a fantastic clearance.
City had our moments, too, after the break, as we progressed forward well with the lively Murphy and starlet Laura Blindkilde Brown causing problems for the United defenders as the second half played out.
But the Blues couldn't quite break the deadlock in what was overall a strong performance in a well fought 0-0 draw at the CFA.
City XI: Kheating (Cumings 45'), Layzell, Prior, Rose, Coombs (Lewis 45') , Blindkilde Brown, Murphy, Beney (O’Carrol 45'), Casparij (McCaffery 25'), Thomas, Pritchard
Unused subs: Burden, Adedini, Antill-Mellor
