Oliver Reiss highlighted the hunger and desire of his City squad in the wake of Tuesday’s ruthless 6-1 FA Youth Cup fifth round win at Leeds.

It was another emphatic scoreline on the road following hard on the heels of last weekend’s 4-0 derby win away at Manchester United in the league.

Matty Warhurst bagged a brace with Reigan Heskey, Ryan McAidoo, Finlay Gorman and Luca Fletcher also on the scoreline.

And though Reiss felt certain aspects of the performance didn’t quite touch the heights of last Saturday’s emphatic win, he was quick to praise both manner of the result and the players’ desire and superb finishing which again demonstrated the quality running throughout the squad.

“It’s very, very nice to see that. To see that the team always wants to score more and more,” Reiss pointed out.

“Of course, I think there was some situations in the game where we should control or we should try to control the the game more, but sometimes it is like that.

“But they kept going, [always] trying to score more.

“It was a weird game. I think the result doesn't fit together with the [performance].

“And they [Leeds] were really good. I think Leeds did very, very well. You could see this is maybe the game they wanted to bring everything in as we were expecting it, of course.

“Even at 3-0 down, they kept going.

“But in the end, it is all about again the quality of our players to win a game like this. Also, a game like this was such an incredible result at the end.”

City’s reward is a quarter final tie away to West Brom next month – but for his part Reiss said he was putting all thoughts of that tie to one side with important league and UEFA Youth League assignments looming for many of his players.

“I was not thinking about this, to be honest.

“Some players play in the Under-16 Premier League Cup, some are with the EDS and in the UEFA Youth League.

“So, there is every week a game.

“The typical thing to [say is] watch game by game and there will be some tough games in the future in the league also.”
