City made four wins from four in the Under-18 Premier League North following our 5-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
After an imperious first half, City’s hard work was rewarded with a strike from Oliver Tevenan, his first of the season, just before the break.
Christian Dunbar-McDonald made it two early in the second half, but Wolves' Jake Wilcox pulled one back for the hosts just after the hour mark.
Tyrone Samba’s ranged effort restored our two-goal lead with less than 20 minutes to play though, with the momentum back in City’s favour.
And late strikes from Dunbar-McDonald and Teddie Lamb completed the five-star performance that sees City stay top of the Under-18 Premier League North table.
After a large majority of Oliver Reiss’ side returned to the City Football Academy midweek following the September international break, our clash with Wolves took a while to get going.
But City were patient in possession and looked comfortable at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground, and the first time either ‘keeper was tested cam midway through the half, with Lamb’s close-range effort denied by Alfie Arnold.
City gradually raised the intensity until it became too much for Wolves to deal with and, in turn, found the breakthrough.
Dunbar-McDonald, who would later get his goal, forced a low save from Arnold from distance and, when the Wolves stopper spilled the effort, Tevenan was lightning quick with his reaction.
He raced onto the loose ball to fire home from a near impossible angle to give City a deserved lead on 37 minutes.
Dunbar-McDonald rattled the crossbar three minutes after the restart, but he wouldn’t be denied again when he placed his low finish underneath Arnold a few seconds later.
But despite that impressive start to the half, as the rain began to pour a shift in momentum saw City on the back foot. Wolves’ high press was rewarded, and Jake Wilcox halved the deficit on 62 minutes.
Undeterred, Reiss’ side looked to give the hosts a taste of their own medicine, with Harrison Miles orchestrating the high press.
After winning the ball in Wolves’ half, it allowed T. Samba space to fire a cracking effort goal-bound on the edge of the box and outside the grasp of Arnold.
Dunbar-McDonald continued to cause Wolves problems and, this time, his fine solo run ended with a great finish into the top-right corner to make it four.
And Lamb would add the fifth and final goal in the closing minutes, adding his third in as many league games to complete another dominant performance by City.
