City’s Elite Development Squad have made history by earning a fourth Premier League 2 title win after our 2-0 triumph over Southampton.

Ben Wilkinson’s side lifted the 2024/25 trophy at the Joie Stadium on Thursday evening, becoming the second team to win the play-off final since the competition’s restructure in 2023/24, with Tottenham Hotspur claiming the crown the season prior.

It’s our fourth PL2 title win, setting City above the rest with Manchester United winning three and Chelsea and Everton earning two apiece since 2012/13.

In his first season in charge of the EDS, Lead Coach Wilkinson led his team to the PL2 league summit after 20 matches in the league phase earlier in the campaign.

It included 15 wins, two draws and three defeats to see us top the table with a record-breaking 47 points.

City found the back of the net an impressive 61 times and conceded just 23 to boast a fantastic 38 goal difference.

In the play-offs, City overcame tough opponents Liverpool and Arsenal in extra-time wins that saw the team tested to their limits with comeback triumphs.

In the semi-final, Wilkinson’s youngsters fought off Manchester United before completing the campaign with a win over the Saints.

In total, City scored nine goals and conceded three in our four play-off fixtures.

Our young boys in blue have shown fantastic maturity and development individually and as a team, whilst showcasing City’s possession-based, attacking football.

En route to a record-breaking title, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey was named the Premier League 2 Player of the Season after also making his senior debut under Pep Guardiola in what has been a standout season for the 19-year-old.

Divin Mubama, who joined City’s Academy last summer, topped the goalscoring chart, finding the back of the net an impressive 16 times in 13 games.

Emilio Lawrence, who has unfortunately missed the final few weeks of the season through injury, topped our assists chart with seven in 18 appearances in another fantastic campaign for the 19-year-old.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Ben, his staff and the squad on their tremendous achievement.
