Speculation is beginning to spread like wildfire across the media that Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal has been crowned the winner of the Ballon d’Or.
The latest ‘Golden Ball’ is of course set to be handed out on Monday night.
It has long been common knowledge across world football that two clear frontrunners have emerged for the prize, in the form of the aforementioned Lamine, and Paris Saint-Germain standout Ousmane Dembélé.
And if word stemming from Paris in the hours leading up to the gala is anything to go by, then it is Barcelona’s prodigious winger who looks set to pip Dembélé to the honour of being named world football’s best player.
During an appearance on El Chiringuito TV on Monday evening, journalist Jose Alvarez Haya, speaking live from France’s capital, was asked who is likeliest to lift the Ballon d’Or.
And Alvarez Haya echoed mounting claims across Paris and beyond, by way of a two-word response:
”Lamine Yamal.”
