New City signing Grace Clinton says our style of play was a key factor in her decision to make the move to the Joie Stadium.
The 22-year-old England midfielder has joined from cross-city rivals Manchester United on a four-year deal after helping the Lionesses to Euros glory this summer.
Now she’ll link up with several other members of that triumphant squad, as well as some of the most talented players across the Barclays Women’s Super League, under the guidance of Andrée Jeglertz.
Speaking in her first interview as a City player, Clinton expressed how excited she is to play our famous brand of football.
“City, for me, has always played an amazing style of football. Keeping the ball, it looks lovely, and there are amazing players [here],” she said.
“Hempo, Bunny, Miedema, Hasegawa are just a few of them and I want to get better and grow and learn things in my career and I think there are amazing people here to learn things from.
“To play this style of football will be really enjoyable.”
The move represents a fresh opportunity for Clinton, who has shown a willingness to take on a new challenge several times already in her young career.
Having come through the ranks at Everton before joining United, the midfielder then enjoyed productive loans at Bristol City and Tottenham Hotspur before returning to Marc Skinner’s side last term.
While Clinton accepts knowing the likes of Alex Greenwood, Lauren Hemp and Khiara Keating will help her settle in, she’s excited to get stuck into everything at City.
“I know the quality of those girls and I’m quite an adventurous person anyway. I like to go out of my comfort zone,” she said.
“It was exciting to speak to them, and I’ve spoken to them for a little while and they said good things about the club and it’s an amazing prospect for me.”
